The 2019 Dennis Kelley 500

Dennis Kelley

Dennis Kelley joined SCSR back in the ESRL days and raced with us until his passing on January 9, 2014. Dennis was well loved by everyone here at SCSR, always joked around and gave us all a smile. We'll never forget his one-liner jokes and his uncanny ability to make us all laugh. Dennis loved to race at Daytona. It was his favorite track. He wasn't the best driver here at first, but he was determined to get a handle on it.

He joined 3 Blind Mice Racing and we remember him anxiously wanting to get on track drafting. We worked well together and with a little help, Dennis became of of the best restrictor plate racers in the league.

Dennis was suffering from medical issues from the time he joined SCSR until his passed away. But you would never have known he had problems. His outlook on life was very refreshing to all of us, and he is very missed. Not many races go by without our thoughts of Dennis. A lot of SCSR drivers knew when time was closing in on him, but none of us were prepared for the inevitable.

We love and miss you buddy!

Qualifying

Qualifying for the 2019 Dennis Kelley 500 will be the same format as NASCAR uses for its annual Daytona 500 race. It will be more extensive than our usual SCSR event qualifying.

Qualifying Sessions

An official qualifying session will have at least one SCSR admin present. When you are ready to make your qualifying run, advise the attending admin and the server will be advanced to qualifying from practice. The 3 official qualifying session will lock in positions 1 and 2 for the 500 mile race. So if you want a chance at the front row, you will have to participate in at least one of the official qualifying sessions. Official qualifying times will be posted and updated after each official qualifying session has completed.

Once the qualifying attempt has scored a lap, no "reruns" are allowed for qualifying and each driver gets ONE opportunity to qualify (once a lap has been recorded). You're welcome to spectate a driver's qualifying run if you are already on the server in practice. But please be aware you will need to stay off the track if we switch to qualifying until the driver has completed their qualifying run.

Qualifying Sessions Schedule

  • Session 1 - Friday, January 11, 2019 at 6-8pm EST
  • Session 2 - Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11am -1 pm EST

Qualifying Races

There will be 2 50-lap races to set the remaining positions 3 through 30 in the field. Your average finish from both races will be used to determine your starting position. Those missing either race will be given a weighted value of 40 for that race.

Qualifying Races Schedule

Race 1 - Saturday, January 12, 2019

  • Practice Starts @ 8:00pm EST
  • Drivers Meeting @ 8:50pm EST
  • Race Starts @ 9:00pm EST (50 laps)

  • Practice starts @ 9:45pm EST
  • Drivers Meeting @ 9:50pm EST
  • Race Starts @ 10:00pm EST

Once the Timed qualifying sessions and the qualifying races have run we will post the official starting order for The 2019 Dennis Kelley 500. Anyone not on the list and if there are still positions available will start at the rear of the field for the 500 based on when they enter the server.

The Three P's

Preparation, Participation and Practice are the 3 'p's for this race. As you can see, preference is given to those who are prepared, participating, and have practiced.

If you...

  • have a good setup
  • participate in qualifying
  • post a good qualifying time
  • practice with us during the week
  • run both the 50 lap races
  • get a good result in the 50 lap races
  • ....you can almost be guaranteed a good starting spot for the race.

Conclusion

We hope that many SCSR drivers can join us to honor Dennis!
